A single-story, triangle-roofed house on a quiet residential street in Asahikawa. Past the entrance it is one step-free floor throughout — 95㎡ that six guests have entirely to themselves.

Most stays you can rent in this town are a single unit inside a city-centre apartment building. This is different: a real house on a street where people actually live. Children can run without worrying about the neighbours, and laughter after dark is fine.

The far bedroom is a genuine Japanese tatami room — soft light through shoji screens, a single hanging scroll in the alcove, wood lining all the way to the ceiling. At night you lay out the futons three side by side. It makes for a completely different kind of night from sleeping in a bed, and it is the room guests write about most after their stay.

Even with six people there are three bedrooms, so you can choose between everyone gathered around the solid-wood table and quiet time apart in each room. Every bedroom has a work desk, so the first email of the morning or work after the kids are asleep gets done without taking over the living room.

Mornings start with beans freshly ground by the fully automatic De'Longhi machine and water boiled in a BALMUDA kettle. A dishwasher handles dishes for six.

25 minutes from Asahikawa Airport, 15 minutes to Asahiyama Zoo — and you can reach both without driving through the city centre, which makes arrival and departure days easy. A convenience store is a 2-minute walk. A locally loved game-meat restaurant nearby serves Ezo venison.

Bedroom layout is yours to decide — two couples, three generations, or a group of friends all find a combination that fits. The living room and dine-in kitchen are one connected space, with a bay window, a ceiling fan, a large TV with Netflix, air conditioning in every room, and a high chair and children's tableware on hand.
